Dollar Store Makeup Find – First Impression Review

Hey guys! I’m back to blogging again. Had been crazy over at my other blog site and let’s say I have some extra time to hang out here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI shared a post review on their Bonne Bell Nail Lacquers recently and if you’re interested to read more. Simply hit the link here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJust look at how awesome these shades are. I got the shades from the front to the back – we got Getaway Berry, Resort Red and Bliss Berry (net wt: 38g a tube). They’re absolutely a gorgeous color!

I’m going to go ahead and do my first impression review in this post having already shown to you my find from my local Dollar store above.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’m happy to get a closed-up picture of the Getaway Berry lip color by Bonne Bell. The packaging is of drugstore plastic material. I like that I can see the actual color from the transparent plastic.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThey go on extremely smooth and soft. I feel they’re kind of sheer but I’m going go through the day and check back later in four hours. The shade I’m wearing today is in Resort Red.

The colors on lips are not as opaque as you see in the tube.  I would say the formula is definitely not as pigmented but you could surely do a couple of layers on to the color you like. Look how gorgeous they are!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’m doing a couple of swatches here for you. They’re not streaky and I tell you guys, they smells amazing. It’s lightweight and glide on smoothly.

All three of these lip colors have different scents on them. Makes each individually unique. Out of the three shades I got, Bliss Berry gives the most shimmery finish but it’s really comfortable on lips.

So, I’m back to do a final review check on the product I’ve tried on earlier. The Resort Red lip color still looking good and pretty on my lips. Let me tell you what I ate for lunch, I ate a plate of rice and a glass of water. For afternoon snacks I had creme brulee and ice pops for desserts. I feel the lip color to be nicely moisturizing and it lasted on me for 3 hours. I really like that there were some hint of lip stain remaining on my lips even after all that eating.

Overall, I’m pretty impressed with the formula and love the gorgeous shades. I would recommend this to you.

Drugstore Mini Beauty Haul

It’s that time again! Time to spend the optimum points from the drugstores – Pharmaprix (Shoppers Drug Mart). As many of you know, I love to shop at Pharmaprix since they have this reward points system advantage. Every $1 you spend, you got 1 point.

When I saw that they’re having this spend your point event last Saturday, I didn’t walk but ran to the store and grabbed a few products to share in this drugstore mini beauty haul.

Product: Benefit Eau De Toilette in Garden of Good & Eva for CAD$19.99

Honestly, I love Benefit makeup products but this is my first time trying out their fragrances. I’m a sucker for cute and unique packaging and was sold the moment when I saw this on display. I’ve to get it.

  • Adorable cute packaging
  • Love the scents of fresh and lusty garden
  • Stays on for a good few hours
  • Perfect gift for Mother’s Day

  • None

Verdict: I have gotten compliments and friends asking which brand I’m wearing. Overall, if you’re adventurous and love to experience different scents of perfume, the price is decent to try this collection out.

Product: Maybelline The Rock Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

  • On the back of the palette you’ll find a diagram of the shades that can be used in groups of four, three, or two.
  • It contains six mate and six shimmery shadows

  • Some of the shade variations in the Rock Nudes are very similar to those featured in the Smokes
  • Not a complete dupes but there are similarities for sure
  • Total disappointment. I couldn’t even create a look with these shades as they were rather bad quality all around.
  • They blend really badly and adhere terribly to my lids which results in a fast to fade formula. Yikes!
  • Patchy color pay off with chunks of shimmer in the mix
  • Poor pigmentation
  • Unfortunately, like many of these bigger palettes from the brand, the Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette is a total mess.Verdict: In my opinion, you can get better quality eyeshadows from other drugstore brands and pay less. I would not recommend this palette for obvious reasons. They lack pigmentation, chalky, faded, fall out especially the shimmery shadows and too similar to Smokes Palette.

Product: Essence 2 in 1 Liquid Eyeliner Pen for CAD$3.99

  • Dual ended eyeliner pen. Thin applicator on one end and thick on the other.
  • It glides easy without much work needed thanks to the easy to control pen
  • Product stays put on lash-line without bulging or fading after 6-7 hours
  • It dries up to a matte finish which I really like
  • It won’t smudge or flake on you

  • Not waterproof

Verdict: My conclusion is that although I have used many expensive brands. I still find that this works just as well. It is so inexpensive and last all day, its smudge proof and doesn’t flake off. I’m quite impressed with the quality and staying power.  It’s a good eyeliner for the price.

Most people (including me) think that buying natural cosmetics means they have to make some kind of trade-off.

Like, the ingredients might be safer, but the textures, color selection and/or longevity probably won’t be as good as mainstream blah blah blah. Am I right?

So, of course it draws my attention to find out more of this new designed cushion foundation by Physician Formula. It’s one of the drugstore brand that’s cruelty free besides Wet n’ Wild, Milani, NYX and Jordana to name a few.

Product: Mineral Wear Talc-Free-All-In-1 Cushion Foundation in Light/Medium

  • Love the cute blue compact packaging
  • Nice saturated liquid foundation soaked in the cushion
  • Gives a light to medium coverage
  • Long wearing without bulging
  • Easy to blend with the sponge puff applicator, or you could use your beauty blender, brush or even fingers.
  • Really adore the cushion style texture

  • Limited shade options
  • Feels more like a BB Cream than a foundation compared to L’Oreal Lumi Cushion foundation or Lancome Miracle Cushion foundation which gives a solid medium coverage

Verdict: Overall, I really like this cushion foundation. The formula is lightweight and it gives a pretty glow and airbrush finish look. You can build it to medium coverage and  its long wearing.

Product: L’Oreal Paris Sublime Soft Gentle Micellar Solution and L’Oreal Youth Code Skin Recharger Day/Night Cream

Micellar Solution

  • Feels like water and fragrance free
  • It’s affordable
  • I notice that this product isn’t drying on the skin
  • It is so gentle when removing makeup
  • Removes makeup (have not yet tested on waterproof mascara)

  • Packaging could be a little more product efficient

Verdict: Overall I don’t think I would go out to specifically repurchase this, but if it was on offer somewhere I would probably pick up a bottle or two. I think it’s totally comparable to Bioderma and I really like it.

Youth Code Day/Night Cream

  • I love the smell of a light fragrance
  • Make skins feels smoother than it really is
  • Formula is thick but run smooth to soft skin
  • It’s non-greasy

  • Just a basic moisturizer that is costly. Not doing much to my skin
  • It has a lot of silicone in it, in my opinion

Verdict: What I think of this product! I really had high hopes for this one but didn’t really do much for me. It’s one of those “just alright” products. I really want to like it but I wouldn’t go back to repurchase. I’d still continue to use it by rotation. It hydrates my skin and that’s about it.

Product: Aveeno Positively Ageless Day Cream with SPF 30

On the back of this packaging, it reads to reduce appearance of lines and wrinkles. Improved skin texture and lifted, firmer appearance of skin. I just tried this product for the last few days and this is my opinion

  • I love love the scents. It smells AMAZING!
  • The texture is creamy and went on smoothly on skin
  • It keeps skin hydrated
  • No break out. So yay!
  • Non-greasy
  • The packaging. I love love this packaging with a pump and cap on it.

  • On a higher price point

Verdict: I couldn’t tell in a short time if the claims of fighting visible signs of premature aging but one thing I can tell you is that my skin is loving it. Extra bonus that it contain SPF 30 which could really make a different when you’re out and about under the beautiful sun. I would highly recommend it base on how amazing it smell, hydrate and keep my skin protected from the UVA. I will definitely repurchase.

samples with purchase

Product: Branded Skincare Samples – Lancome Advanced Genifique, Lise Watier Hydra Force, Clarins Multi Active Day & Night Cream and Vichy Smoothing & Illuminating Cream

The opinion here is based on the products which I have tested on my first impression. I usually finished up using these tester samples before giving my thoughts and opinion. If you have been using them in your skincare routine, make sure to leave your comments below.

Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum is awesome. I’ve been using them for the last few days and I really liked it. For a short period of time, I couldn’t tell if it make my skin look youthful but it definitely make my skin tone looks good. For better results, just apply it in the morning and at night. I feel that it absorbs quickly to skin and leaves skin feeling really nice before I continue with my usual skincare routine. By the way, Lancome fans, on April 28 till May 8 don’t forget to drop by Pharmaprix to pick or restock your skincare products. You get a free gift worth $128 with purchase of $36 and above.

Lise Watier Hydra Force came out with another new formula for normal to dry skin typed individuals. This product is still new in the market and I’m excited to try it for you guys. Love the formula with a slight hint of scents. It keeps skin feeling hydrated and smooth.

Clarins Paris Multi-Active Day & Night Cream is products made with plant extracts. I’m a fan of Clarins and I really love their skincare products. So far, none has let me down given that I have sensitive skin. I’ve been trying out many different products by Clarins and it doesn’t cause any breakout. I really love all the smell of their skincare. It’s a good investment for your skin even though the price is on a higher end.

Vichy Laboratories New Idealia Smoothing & Illuminating Cream smells incredibly wonderful. This product is paraben free and it’s good for normal to combination skin type person. The formula is creamy with a faded light pink in it. It’s function is to even skin texture and complexion. I’m loving it and would go back to get the regular size.

I love branded drugstore skincare products. The tester samples are good to try out before you take the plunge. It’s an investment that would never go out of style.

So the next time you’re shopping at Pharmaprix or Shoppers Drug Mart, don’t forget to ask for your tester samples. My beautician friends are very helpful and all ready to help answer any beauty related questions.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read. I’ll see you again on the next one :)

Sugar Box Eyeshadow Palette (Pic Heavy)

Hey everyone! I don’t know about where you live but the weather is going up and down like the roller coaster. It’s ‘Spring’ here but we’re still getting snow! What about you?

Today, I love to talk about these two eyeshadow palettes by Sugar Box that I reached for time and again. It’s a brand which I feel under-rated or undiscovered for many.

Let’s begin with our discovery girls…

As you all know,  I cover from higher end, mid end to drugstore brands here on Express Beauty Blog (simplified review) and at Sharon Beauty Prime (main blog).

These Ten Color Eyeshadow Palette is available at Amazon , ebay online for $7.99 and/or at HomeShop for $5.00 a palette, the last time I checked.

If you’ve been following my blog post, you may know by now that I love all kinds of makeup, and I do not discriminate between high end and drugstore. I got to admit that sometimes I have trouble splurging on big things and I will wait until I find ways to justify my purchase… sometimes I don’t! I have a lot of makeup and it’s hard to justify a purchase if I have five other products like it. But let’s face it – I’m a product or aka eyeshadow palette junkie.

Since I really like the first eyeshadow palette, I ordered another palette in #1 to accompany my #3 palette. They look good together.

The eyeshadow palette in Color #1 has a few cooler undertones compared to the #3 palette.

Eyeshadow Palette in Color #3 – you can click here for full review which I did a few months ago. Yes, it took me like forever to publish this post but like the saying goes “Better late than never”!

Here are a closer look at the two palettes side by side.

These eyeshadows are cute with the packaging slim looking and there is a generous amount of products in them.

Besides the great palette, I love the texture and appearance of the eyeshadow – matte and shimmer but at the same time nicely pigmented. I love it!

Very easy to apply and feels so light, almost silky. Lasted a good while without fading and even better result with eye primer. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Look how pretty the colors are. A good color selections for day to smokey evening wear. The textures are smooth and soft that makes blending a breeze.

This palette has a few brown, gold and copper shades which I really like. They’re mostly shimmery finish and long wearing. A little goes a long wear. Beautiful color payoff and I would recommend it.

So, these palettes are a very nice value considering that the quality is quite impressive. I would recommend to makeup enthusiasts or makeup beginners to grab this palette and play with different shades and look.

That’s it for today. Thanks for reading! Hope to you see you again on the next one. Bye!

Moisture Boosting Mask by Indeed Lab

I must be the only one who doesn’t like this product, as there are so many glowing reviews from bloggers.

I’ve been using this product for almost a week and have been very disappointed with the results. I bought it because of the hype and for the special in-store price that week by the drugstore.

Sheet Masks by Indeed Lab

This product is from Japan. Here is what the packaging says …

Each sheet is packed individually.Contains four packets in a box for $10.99 available at Pharmaprix or Shoppers Drug Mart, drugstores or beauty shops.

Easy instruction on how to place the sheet mask.

One sheet mask per packet. Nicely folded in individual packaging.

I find that this works well underneath all moisturizers but if you have very dry skin, don’t expect this to solve your problems. You’ll need to use something extra creamy on top of this – this products is a hydrator, not a nourisher.

The tissue is a thick one and it feels heavy loaded with lots of products.

I started noticing my skin would feel warm when I applied it. It soon turned from “warming” sensation to “burning” sensation. In the beginning I thought it was just my imagination but after the second try, I’m not sure if I’m sensitive to that ingredient (hyaluronic acid is a hydration serum) or if it was this product in particular that my skin disliked. I threw the rest out in the trash.

Here is up closed of the hydraluron moisture boosting mask. I tried only two of them and here is my opinion of this product based on my own experience.

  • It absorbs quickly
  • It’s fragrance free
  • It contains Algae extracts which has antioxidant properties

  • Has the tingling or burning sensation after 1 min
  • Too dehydrating
  • Doesn’t offer your skin all its needs to truly restore moisture
  • No anti aging ingredient in it
  • Slightly overpriced for averagely drugstore brand

Verdict :  Add me to the list of people not particularly impressed by this product. I was excited to try it but found it just did not seem to do much. I wouldn’t repurchase this again.

Did nothing to my dry to combination skin. In fact, it makes my skin feels drier than before even after applying my Lierac Silky Reshaping cream as instructed on the back of the packaging. My skin doesn’t feel extra soft, smooth. or moisturized at all. While the product didn’t give me any reactions, I didn’t see any benefits after finishing the whole pack.

I can see it does work for some, but it doesn’t for me and others so it’s a toss. While the price was great when I picked this pack for only $5.00, I was disappointed with this product overall.

What do you think of moisture sheet mask? Has anyone feel the same way with this product? Let me hear what you think of the product that disappoints you in the comment section.

Thanks as usual for taking the time to read. I  see you again on the next one 🙂

Sharon xoxo
